Cultural Competency is a central issue for middle managers in the field of youth development. As immigration increases, our youth populations are becoming more diverse. Middle managers must help equip front line workers to talk with youth about culture and diversity in order to prepare our youth to succeed in diverse educational and work settings. In addition, managers may supervise staff members who are culturally diverse, and need to be aware of different cultural dynamics operating within the staff. Finally, managers must also negotiate within a larger agency context where cultural styles and approaches may influence the work of their youth program. This training will help managers to consider and negotiate issues of diversity in all of these situations.
