  • Mentoring Training Series   ( 1 Articles )

    Description: To provide mentors with the supports and tools necessary for a positive and productive mentoring relationship, the Hartford Mentoring Partnership has come together to share their training expertise on commonly faced issues in the mentoring relationship. These trainings are open to all participating mentors of the HMP member organizations. 

  • Middle Management Institute   ( 1 Articles )

    Description: The Middle Management Institute (MMI) was developed in response to a gap in resources to prepare middle management staff in the field of youth development. The curriculum highlights strategies to increase leadership development and quality performance techniques for middle managers. Networking activities are embedded to encourage the development of peer support networks.  Students in the institute will meet once a month and will gain the opportunity to build their own support network, contribute to educational activities, and receive training from local and regional experts in their respective fields. The MMI consists of six five-hour training sessions, covering the following areas: Staff Leadership/Supervising & Managing Staff, Communication Skills and Conflict Resolution, Cultural Competency, Managing Change and Motivating Team, Budgeting/Financial Management and Program Evaluation.

     A cohort of not more than twenty individuals is selected to be part of the Institute each year.

  • Youth Development Practitioners Academy   ( 1 Articles )

    Description: To provide youth with the best services and supports, we must be versed in the best practices of the youth development field. The Youth Development Practitioner Academy is an nine-month training certificate program geared towards youth development professionals and individuals interested in working directly with youth. This training certificate will cover professional standards and best practices which guide the field of youth development. It consists of nine courses covering a range of youth development topics such as; “Effective Communication with youth and Families”, “Program Development and Management” and “Legal and Ethical Issues in Working with Youth”. It provides a comprehensive approach to case management that takes a holistic view of youth from assessment to referral and follow-up. This training program provides youth development practitioner’s an opportunity to sharpen their tools/skill sets as well as network and collaborate with others in their field.

     You may take one or all of the nine courses, in any order.  After successful completion (attendance at all scheduled class sessions, completion of all reading assignments, and completion of a final project for each course) of all nine of the courses, you are awarded a Youth Development Practitioner Certificate. All classes are held from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Village for Families and Children South Campus 331 Wethersfield Avenue in Hartford

    Please note: All students enrolling in the full nine-course certificate must attend a one-hour Orientation on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 9:00 am-10:00am.

  • Youth Cultural Competency Series   ( 1 Articles )

    Description: As youth development professionals, we work to prepare our young people to be productive, self-sufficient adults and active participants in society. We cannot reach this goal without reflecting on our complex identities and its impact on how we interact with the world.  Creating a collective identity, a collective consciousness will enable us to be active participants and decision makers in society. This training series covers strategies we can implement in our everyday work to move our young people from complacent bystanders to active change agents. As adult facilitators we must be able to educate, build self efficacy, and move youth to action. This training series focuses on individual and community identity formation, self efficacy, and youth activism through the use of popular education strategies and visual thinking strategies.
