Middle Management Institute

Taking Management to New Heights

Thank you for your interest in applying to the Middle Management Institute!

The Middle Management Institute (MMI) was developed in response to a gap in resources to prepare middle management staff in the field of youth development.  Based on a national search of similar management training, as well as a comprehensive survey of both middle managers and their supervisors at youth agencies in the Hartford community, a training format was structured, and the Institute launched in the fall of 2008.  A cohort of not more than twenty individuals are selected to be part of the Institute each year, and networking activities are included as part of each training session to encourage the development of peer support networks.  The MMI consists of six five hour training sessions, covering the following areas:

  • Leadership/Managing and Supporting Staff
  • Communication Skills/Conflict Resolution
  • Cultural Competency
  • Managing Change /Motivating Team
  • Budgeting /Financial Management
  • Program Evaluation

The management training curriculum will cover a range of topics and highlight strategies to increase leadership development and quality performance techniques.  Students in the institute will meet once month and will gain the opportunity to build their own support network, contribute to educational activities, and receive training from local and regional experts in their respective fields.
